Viva Aerobus Airlines
Viva Aerobus, officially known as Aeroenlaces Nacionales S.A. de C.V., commenced operations in November 2006. The airline, which is based at Monterrey Escobedo International Airport, is recognized as a Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier. It offers a range of domestic flights to major Mexican cities, popular leisure destinations, and select locations in the United States. Additionally, Viva Aerobus serves several smaller regional airports throughout the country.
The airline was established through a strategic collaboration between Irelandia Aviation, the investment arm of the Ryan family (the founders of Ryanair), and Grupo IAMSA, a leading Mexican transportation company. This partnership led to the creation of Viva Aerobus. In 2016, Grupo IAMSA acquired the 49% stake previously held by Irelandia in the airline. Viva Aerobus’s sister airline, VivaColombia (now simply Viva), was also established by Irelandia, making both airlines part of Grupo Viva, a global airline network. As part of its modernization efforts, Viva Aerobus completed the transition to an all-Airbus A320 fleet in 2016, retiring its last Boeing 737-300s.
